Signature Logo Ideas to Inspire Your Design

Calligraphy is the art of beautiful writing that dates back from ancient China. The modern definition of calligraphic skill is “the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, humorous and skillful way.” The style of calligraphy is described as a hand or alphabet.

Calligraphy extends from functional and handwritten inscriptions to sophisticated works of art where handwriting takes primacy over regular writing. The skill of calligraphy differs from typography and non-classical handwriting. Features of calligraphy are easily recognizable, fluently, and spontaneously created, and improvised at the time of writing.

Calligraphy is an artful way of expression in the form of various shapes, letter design-typography, original handwritten inscriptions, authorized calligraphy art, certificates, maps, and signature logo design.

Signature Logo Design

signature logo is a beautifully designed logo written in calligraphy or cursive style lettering made up of the name of the company or a  brand or its initials. This custom logo style is a great choice for personal brands that are primarily represented by a person or for those attempting to create more personal and friendly brands. Signature logos tend to work perfectly for creative and customer centric businesses such as personal trainers, photography, law firms, life coaches, fashion designers, artists and even business executives. Deciding on a signature logo style will give your brand the unique ability to express its unique personality. These logos could easily be created using one of the preexisting fonts such as Adobe Handwriting Fonts but the most beautiful signature logos are hand crafted.

In the world of conglomerates and minimalistic looks, signature logos are more than just visual representations. They represent a chance to stand out and beat your competition!

Even though they seem more complex than trending, minimalistic logos, if well thought out and designed, signature logos can easily be applied anywhere you imagine, including custom tags and labels, brand merchandise, legal documents, business cards, websites, social media, and video content.

1. Walt Disney

One of, if not the most famous signature logo, belongs to the Walt Disney company. Signature recognized all around the world dates back to 1937 and is the distinctive script of a stylized version of Walt's actual signature. Though Disney never had a signature that included this exact letter 'D' as seen on the logo, it represents an fusion of different signatures he used over the years.

This dreamy logo is also known as “The Most Famous Signature of All Time”. A brand new font, Waltograph, AKA Walt Disney Script,

has been developed based on the lettering of The Walt Disney Company logotype. It is available in free font sites as a free download for personal use. In 2011, the company decided to drop “Walt” from the title leaving simply “Disney” as the only word in the logo.

2. Coca Cola

One of the most iconic and globally recognizable logos owes its fame to its beautiful calligraphy design. Over 130 years ago, signature logo design created the formula, but it was his friend and bookkeeper who came up with the name "Coca-Cola". Frank M Robinson, suggested that “the two Cs would look well in advertising”. And with that, Robinson also suggested and designed the now world famous Coca-Cola script logo. However, you may be surprised to know the brand’s script logo hasn’t always looked so good. For a brief moment in 1890, the company decided to experiment with a dramatic, swirly makeover but quickly decided to shift back to its original calligraphy we see today.

These actions were intended to create a brand image of high quality and elegant products. As the company grew, the logo became more recognizable symbol for quality until it finally reached the TV channel. 5. Abstracts

Unlike symbols that represent real life objects, an abstract logo gives you much more freedom for interpretation of a brand. Since they do not represent any known objects, they give you freedom to create something very unique. With this type of logos it is very important to have precisely defined brand values and messages, so that you can express all of it through simple, geometric and organic shapes.
